Thank you for your interest in Trinity! We believe that God has led you here and we are eager for you to partner with us in ministry. At Trinity we are responding to the Lord’s mandate to “make disciples of all nations.” (Matthew 28:19) We believe that to be a disciple of Jesus Christ is the highest calling a person will ever receive. It is imperative that we have a clear understanding of Christ’s definition of a disciple and His methods of equipping them.
The following information about the New Members class will help you begin to map out your plan of participation. This class outlines our basic beliefs and will help you determine if you would like to join the Trinity community of faith.
Becoming a Disciple
The mandate from Matthew 28:19 says to “make disciples,” not to make members. There is a Biblical basis for church membership. Paul calls the Church the Body of Christ and writes that we are all members of the Body. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) Of course, when Paul uses the term “members,” he is saying that each one of us is like an organ of the body – an eye or an ear or a hand. This is a powerful picture of the unity and interdependence within the Body of Christ. Unfortunately our use of the term member has moved away from this vivid imagery to a more secular use of the word. And so, to be a member of a church is similar to being a member of a club or an organization where one joins, attends occasionally, and may even pay dues. Little else is expected of the members. This has gone so far that when asked why becoming a member is important, some pastors have replied, “Because then you can vote at the annual meeting – and you get a box of envelopes!” This is not making disciples. Become a disciple at Trinity.
The Joining – New Member Classes
New membership class is the joining or connecting with this community of faith called Trinity. The class is held two to three times per year, where New Members are led to understand our purpose and strategy for ministry. Each person is then invited to commit to participate in the worship and service of the congregation. New partners will be welcomed by the congregation during a worship service soon thereafter.
If you are ready to make a commitment to partner with Trinity, please call the church office at 281-4276 to register for the next New Member Class. Classes are usually held in late summer, October and January. The class schedule will be included in the worship announcements as the class date approaches. All classes include a meal and childcare. You may also email the Trinity church office for further information.
